Monkeys with two moms

A brave new world is rapidly approaching. Scientists have not created monkeys with three parents (as a technique to avoid passing on defective genes of a parent with faulty genes in their mitochondria).

Don't you just *love* bio-tech progress..... Maybe one day we'll eliminate most disease.... one day....

Personally, I wish they'd focus more on diseases. I know that everyone wants to pass on their DNA to off-spring, but really, can't people just adopt the kids who don't have parents? There are so many terrible diseases that we need to focus on right away.

I wish they'd find something remotely close to a bipolar cure, which would be the only way I'd ever considering being a biological father.

I do think we'll soon see designer babies. I'm a bit more open to this than some, since it really does offer a way to avoid numerous genetic problems from birth. Of course, it'll open a huge can of ethical worms. As for bipolar disorder, it seems like they would come up with some more conventional medicines that would take care of it at some point--medicines without all the side-effects of the current batch. I guess it just takes so long for any new drug to go through the entire testing process and actually become available. The new brain imaging techniques that are now available are much less expensive and are more sophisticated. It seems like that line of basic research should eventually lead to some major discoveries.
