Keeping Tabs on the Fascist Propaganda Machine

Fox News does it again with inflammatory propaganda that would make Joseph Goebbels proud. In a recent story, we're told:

The tab for just overtime pay for Berkeley cops to keep the peace at Tuesday's Marine protest outside City Hall was reported to be $93,000.

Hmmm. I could think of a few headlines of my own:

The tab for just overtime pay for DC cops to maintain watch over the offices of war profiteers is reported to be over $500,000.

Or how about this one:

The tab for just direct cost for the US military to protect oil corporations and war profiteers' stake in Iraq are between 1.5 and 2 trillion dollars and rising. Virtually all of these corporations will never pay a single dollar in U.S. taxes and the oil they help sell back to the U.S. consumer will not be discounted by a single cent.

The wording of the original statement is also brilliant: the cops need to "keep the peace" and "work overtime" because of these awful unpatriotic citizens who dare to criticize the sacred government. Yes. Joseph would be very proud of his ideological descendents.

That inflammatory Goebbels propaganda you refer to, I didn't see a link to it but there is one:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,330959,00.html

Perhaps the reason you didn't link to it is because the page makes it clear that "fascist propaganda machine" responsible for the article is not Fox News. It's a report from the Associated Press!

They also link to another fascist report from the Nazis at the San Francisco Chronicle:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/02/16/BAK4V3QAI.DTL

Amazing. These fascists also reference cops working overtime to control the protest.

Don't all news outlets take the basic stories from AP and the other major news agencies and then write them up to their liking. Or are you telling me that most paper don't "have stories" since nearly all of their news stories originate with a news wire. As for the police "having to work overtime", why aren't you complaining about when they have to work overtime to guard an NRA rally? The idea that we're supposed to chastise protesters because they incurred costs as the police, FBI, or CIA "had to watch them" is the equivalent of the Chinese government charging families for the bullet the police had to shoot through the heads of captured protesters. We aren't quite there yet but we're certainly headed in the wrong direction.

I remember when right-wingers thought that people should question government. I guess that's only when they aren't in charge.

As for the San Francisco Chronicle, when I lived in the Bay Area twenty years ago, it was a very conservative paper that most people called "The Comical." I doubt it has changed for the better.

I think the new right's motto is to always question the government when it's helping people and never question it when it's torturing or spying on people. It's evidently the government's job to endlessly harass the citizenry, collect massive taxes, and then disperse the loot in the form of no-bid contracts to those with connections.
