It's obvious to most of us now (at least to those who have flown recently) that the air traffic control system is kaput. A proposal for a major overhaul by the name of NexGen is currently being presented to Congress. It'll cost a whopping $22 billion to make the skies safe again, which is a hulluva lotta money (unless we consider that we spend this much in a single season in Iraq). Just like shoppers at the local mall, countries make a choice. Shall we spend all our money fattening up war-profiteers or call the war off a month or two early and fix crumbling infrastructure?

Just add it to the list of things we're not going to be able to afford here in the US that we desperately need. It's just one big kiss off from the Bushies to our children and grandchildren (even the unborn they profess to care so much about).
When we hear that the war costs are sure to top a trillion, it's hard to understand how any social program fails to get funded. The government looks like a billionaire tossing bundles of cash from his limousine. Compared to Shrub's War, every cause and every program seems noble and worth persuing.
Evil Spock votes for crumbling infrastructure! Also try to funnel some money to Evil Spock for a jacuzzi.
With a trillion, we'll get a jacuzzi for you and all your readers and matching jacuzzis for all who vilify and rail against you. And jacuzzis for all those (there are a few left I hear) who have never heard of you. Hell, for a trillion, we'll let the no-bid jacuzzi maker run off to a tax-haven in the satellites of Vulcan.
