Evilution

I have a theory that evolution isn't hip in the U.S. just because it sounds a bit too much like the "R" word. At any rate, America now has the honor of placing just below Latvia and Cyprus in terms of the percentage of adults who don't agree that humans evolved from animals (WaPo, 1/16/2007). At least we edged out Turkey--a country that still hunts down journalist who refuse to deny the Armenian genecide (the model for the Holocaust). Back in the U. S. of A., 40% of adults agree that humans developed from animals, 39% disagree, and 21% couldn't figure out which way to hold the pencil. In Iceland, on the other hand, 85% agreed and only 7% disagreed. All that bathing in hot springs evidently stimulates higher brain functions.

We're just more burdened with a huge population of the knuckle-draggers, is all. Good points. Good fitting cartoon. ;)

For me, it's okay to have the masses question whatever, but to have the commander-in-chimp question it when he has all those scientists and educators at his disposal is atrocious.

Oh, and so want to visit Iceland!

We've got to hurry up and go while there's still some ice left.

There's definitely 'something' in the American culture that rejects reality when it doesn't suit people. That's not so unusual on a personal level... but on a *national* one its quite frightening....

If we close our eyes and believe them strong enough, I'm sure that our fantasies will all come true...

Sorry to rain on your Christian bashing parade, and let me preface this by saying I am a "devout" ATHEIST,but, who cares?

I mean really, who cares if half the country chooses to believe in god. That's the lovely thing about this country is that they can. It's actually refreshing that some still are able to have faith in anything.

Why does Bush's beliefs in god upset so many of you? I mean as an atheist, my profound lack of giving a shit about god or gods leaves me not giving a shit about his beliefs. By the way, he never said "god told him" anything, that was a blind quote by a Muzzie dude who's not a bog fan.

I'd be willing to bet that the author of this blog believes wholeheartedly in the THEORY of evolution, and that's just a THEORY,(albeit, actually based on some fact). So what makes you right and them wrong.

Stop bagging on the frickin' Christians, they are more charitable than the lot of you put together times 10. I'd take a Christian at my side over a moonbat any day.

Have a nice day.

I won't speak for Karlo, but I'll tell you why I don't like the POTUS and his beliefs: it's because his beliefs help shape policy. And he's an idiot.

Not to mention the fact that him and his croneys on the Christian right are dead set on bringing on some sort of apocalyse.
By the way, what's a moonbat?

Anyone trying to get mileage from the idea that something is "just a theory" clearly doesn't have the faintest inkling of what they're talking about. The word "theory" is just a fancy term for higher-order generalizations about THE WAY THE WORLD IS. And the current misadministration's conflation of belief, deception, and conveniently selected facts (along with its dismissal of "theories") does have consequences. There is, in fact, a problem with the type of thought-processes that Christianity introduces. The world's population is increasing at an unsustainable rate that will bring on environmental destruction along with other myriad evils. Christian response: "Don't worry about it. The Second Coming's right around the corner so it won't matter." The Middle East is a mess due to decades of outside sponsorship for dictatorial regimes that stir up religious fanaticism to maintain power. Response: "Don't worry about it. It's just a scene from Revelations as the Jews--the chosen people--take on the anti-Christ (the Muslims?) with help from America (a Christian nation?)" I could go on and on. The basic moral of the story is that ideas matter. Correct analysis matters. And of course, theories matter.
