La la land

Raed in the Middle has a nice sarcastic post on all the good news coming in from Iraq these days. To take just one snippet:

Little bush announced today that "we don't torture", so I realize that all the lies and exaggerations about Abu-Ghreib and Guantanamo were mere hoaxes. This was making me feel bad in the last couple of years; so it makes me feel happy to know what really is going on now. But just for the sake of double-checking, when he said "we" that didn't mean "Laura and I", right?

I'm more and more convinced that no one cares any more. When the American sheeple have become so wonderfully loyal and patriotic that news of torture or a network of secret American prisons fails to elicit a response, we've really entered rightwing la-la land where spoiled and corrupt plutocrats are really rough-n-tough cowboys on horses, and where truth is nothing more than a list of talking points.

Raed is right. The only way Republicans can claim "we don't torture" is by using semantic loopholes; either they redefine "we" or they redefine "Torture". A third option would be to redefine "do not" to mean "do". In any event, about 35% of Americans will accept the redefinition if they believe it will keep them from soiling their pants worrying about Bin Forgotten.

I'm sorry to have to agree with you on this one Karlo. I too get the feeling increasingly these days that no one cares anymore.

It's all rather depressing really.

Yep. At some point, I wonder what it would take for conservatives to oppose the government. If the government started rounding people up and gassing them, would anyone care? (Who knows? Maybe this is what they're doing in these camps? How would we find out if it was happening?)

I think the word Sheeple sums it up really. It appears the american people over teh last 40 to 50 years have slowly but surely been brainwashed and taught to not care about the big picture. I just hope there are enough wide-thinkinking non-extremists left in the US to pull them back from the brink.

However until big usiness and the uber-capitalist oil barons loose their ever-tightening grip on the reins of power, we on this planet are in for a bumpy ride.

There are those who want people to do their thinking for them, they like keeping their heads buried in the sand, why the government takes its iron fisted hand, and chokes the life out of liberty.

Semantic loopholes make me wonder what the definition of "is" is...

At least Clinton's legal semantic dance wasn't a cover for torturing anyone. Except maybe Rush Limbaugh, but I'm ok with that.

Yes. Why can't we hear of a scandal about a leftwing CIA cabal that is carting off wacko rightwing radio commentators, taking them to remote mountainous sites around the globe, and forcing them to eat vegan diets while listening to Tibetan throat chanting.

Nice image.

I had quite a chuckle imagining Pat Robertson being forced to eat Tofu at gun point....

LOL "American Sheeple" -- surprisingly I'd never heard that before, how appropriate!

Yes. Well, some people here say it's ba-a-a-a-ad to make fun of upright patriotic herds, uh, I mean folks.
