Bush supporters are the majority?

The Republicans keep telling us to get with the program: Everyone loves Shrub and the direction he's taking the country. The latest poll numbers tell a different story:

45% support bush's foreign policy
35% think the country is going in the right direction
37% approve of bush's handling of social security
43% support bush's handing of economy

It hardly sounds like a mandate.

I believe those numbers are pretty accurate. That is why a Republican victory last November was such a big deal. We had a very unpopular president leading us in a very unpopular war and the Democrats still lost. The Democrats had a shot last November and they blew it by nominating an elitest from Massachusets. A moderate sounding southern Democrat (like Bill Clinton) who was strong on defense would have trounced Bush in a general election.

I completely agree that the Democrats chose a terrible candidate. And yes, there's a lesson to be learned from the loss.

Though I hope the lesson isn't that the Democrats should nominate "moderate" Southerners!

Maybe the lesson is that everyone currently voting Democrat should switch to the Green Party.
