The debate over drugs in
sports is a common one. But recently we're hearing more
speculation over drugs being used to enhance mental prowess in games such as
chess. Of course we all do this to some extent already with our super-caffeinated Lattes on the way to work. But the
idea of drugs becoming common for cognitive enhancement is a bit scary. Will high school kids soon have to be tested prior to taking their SAT tests? Will Ph.D. degrees be revoked after discovering that the person was shooting up modafinil prior to the oral defense?

Aw hell, it's all bass ackwards anyway. What they oughta do is make steroids mandatory in professional sports. When I sit down on the sofa with a bag of chips and a six-pack, I want to be entertained with the best athletic performances that are possible, and that means performance enhancing drugs. And any players who won't take 'em oughta be fired. They're gettin' millions of dollars a year to play that game and all they can do is whine and cry. "Oh, poor me, I might get liver cancer." "Oh, poor me, I might get a brain tumor." Suck it up and be a man and take your anabolic steroids like you oughta.
Now there's an original idea. I like it. We get to subsize the drug industry. We get beefier athletes banging heads at breakneck speeds. And we the sofa-bound make sure we get our daily requirements of saturated fats and B(eer) vitamins.
